This bag was my one and only Christmas present, December 2009. My husband gave me carte blanc permission to pick any bag I wanted, and after careful comparison, I chose the Makowsky Berkeley Tote for several reasons. Here they are, not necessarily in order of importance:
1. Outside slit for phone storage in the back of bag.
2. Front pocket with magnetic connection for keys and sunglasses storage. The bag is fairly large and divided into two sections inside, which means I would be constantly rummaging around to look for my keys if there were not this designated, readily accessible storage place.
3. The overall size. This bag is very functional for storing items such as my wallet, sudoku book, hair brush, cosmetics, jump drive, camera, etc. I travel for my job and often use my handbag in conjunction with an overhead bag to pack in. Makes for a slightly heavier handbag, but is better than the alternative … paying checked baggage fees!
4. The interior of the bag is awesome. The leopard print lining is dark, which will hide random pen marks, and very attractive. The two open inner pockets are finished off beautifully with leather trim. One of them has a silver circle sewn into the top, I presume for clipping keys. There are two zipped pockets — one located above the open pockets, and the other dividing the two compartments. These are finished off with leather for style and reinforcement. I have no worries about ripped lining issues with this bag. It’s hard to tell what will hold up longer and better: the interior or the exterior.
5. Speaking of exterior, the leather used for this bag is absolutely amazing. I don’t know all the precise terms for describing it, but I’ll do my best. It is soft and supple and folds gently, yet holds its own. The surface finish is orange-peel-like in appearance, which gives it both a rich and sporty feel. There is double-stitching everywhere for durability and a finished look. The hardware is silver and accents the leather nicely, without adding bling to the bag. The four large rings that attach the handles to the bag are each stamped with BMakowsky on their outer edge. I discovered this after I bought the bag, and really like it! There is a leather bag BMakowsky bag tag that is buckled onto a strap, but I removed it. It added to the weight, and I’m not a tag flasher. The stamped rings suit me just fine.
6. The bag sits nicely. The bottom is an inset circle 7 inches in diameter, and it allows the bag to sag when it is set down, but keeps it from flopping to the side.
7. The double handles are finished nicely, rounded, and stiff, yet with give. If the bag gets too heavy, I suspect they might dig into the shoulder a bit and become uncomfortable. This is the only potential drawback I can see to this otherwise amazing bag.
Good luck with your purchase.

I LOVE B.Makowsky handbags! This one is a particular favorite. The leather is rich & buttery & it is a great bag to stash just about anything I want to put in it. In the past I have had handbags that are more ‘structured’ with compartments but this one ‘lets me be free!!!’ All in all a great bag.

This handbag is better than I expected. The leather is butter soft and it is made extremely well. It is an excellent value! The removable tag had to go… was extremely heavy! Overall, I would buy this handbag in every color!
